What can you expect from this 20-week sewing course?

Our course is structured in four learning phases:

• Phase 1: Customised patterns & moulage techniques You will learn to work with body anatomy, take accurate measurements, moulage on the mannequin, and construct customised patterns for skirts, blouses and dresses. Including darts, fit corrections and sleeve and collar constructions.

• Phase 2: Tailoring techniques & specialist materials You will delve into trouser and jacket construction, with a focus on piped pockets, linings, reinforcement with interfacing, and working with materials such as wool, silk, satin and stretch fabrics. Includes haute couture tailoring skills.

• Phase 3: Couture finishing & handcrafting techniques You will perfect manual techniques such as blind seams, French seams, couture appliqué, and delicate finishes. Focused on creating exclusive garments according to haute couture standards.

• Phase 4: Design development & collection building You will design and realise your own capsule collection, learn to digitise patterns, present your work professionally and prepare to work independently as a couture dressmaker.

PHOTO & VIDEO STUDIO & STUDIO: As a BFA student, you can use the photo & video studio and studio free of charge. After completing the course, you will receive a 50% discount on the studio fee for one year.

What will you be able to do after completing this 20-week advanced sewing course?

After completing this intensive course, you will be able to independently design, construct, and professionally finish garments and accessories. You will master not only the technical skills but also the creative and conceptual processes required to transform your designs into high-quality, wearable fashion. You will have worked with a variety of fabrics, constructions, and finishing techniques and will be familiar with the entire process, from measuring to final presentation.

Specifically, after this course, you will be able to:

Take measurements and work with body anatomy

You will know how to correctly measure a customer and adjust patterns based on body shapes. You will understand the difference between ready-to-wear and couture and how anatomy influences fit.

Draw and adjust custom patterns

You will be able to draw, adjust, and convert custom patterns for skirts, blouses, trousers, dresses, and jackets to the correct fabric. You will have insight into silhouettes, figure correction, and technical patterns.

Applying advanced sewing techniques

You master techniques such as setting sleeves (raglan, set-in, cap sleeves), constructing various collars (such as lapels or stand-up collars), sewing darts, pleats, and special finishes.

Independently constructing garments

You have made a custom-made dress, trousers, blouse, and lined jacket. You know how to independently construct a garment from pattern to finish, including zippers, waistbands, and buttonholes.

Working with luxury and specialty fabrics

You can carefully handle fabrics such as silk, wool, lace, satin, and leather. You know how to incorporate these with the correct interfacing, linings, and techniques.

Mastering couture and bridal finishes

You are familiar with manual techniques such as blind hemming, appliqué, French seams, and couture hand stitching. You also have knowledge of lingerie and corset construction, and the processing of tulle and complex patterns for bridal wear.

Creating and presenting your own designs

You'll have designed your own garment or mini-collection, drafted the pattern, chosen fabrics, and translated this into a professional final product. Your work will be professionally finished, styled, and photographed.

Prepared to start as a seamstress

You'll know how to build your own portfolio, how to present yourself to clients, and the steps needed to start working as an independent seamstress. You'll complete the course with a certificate and a professional final project.
