De basis van naaien

LEARNING TO SEW FOR CREATIVE STARTERS

Do you dream of making your own clothing and bringing your designs to life? Then the sewing course at Business Fashion Academy is exactly what you're looking for. This hands-on 20-week programme has been specially developed for everyone who wants to seriously invest in the craft of fashion, sewing and garment construction.

At Business Fashion Academy you are taught by top instructors with years of experience at renowned fashion houses. This unique opportunity offers you not only technical skills, but also valuable insights into the professional fashion world.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN IN THE SEWING COURSE BEGINNER

THE COURSE IS STRUCTURED IN THREE LEARNING PHASES

TECHNIQUE, BASICS, FIRST PROJECTS

In phase 1 you lay a strong technical foundation and get acquainted with the craft of sewing. You learn to work with the sewing machine, different fabrics and basic techniques such as stitching, cutting, pinning and ironing. You also learn to read patterns, understand size charts and choose the right size. You apply this directly in projects, mastering various seams, finishes and techniques such as inserting zips and working with interfacing.

After this phase you can independently sew simple projects with a neat and professional finish.

MAKING CLOTHING, FIT, PATTERNS

In phase 2 you develop further towards making garments and understanding fit and construction. You learn to copy, draft and adjust patterns, and work with body measurements to ensure garments fit well.

You work with more complex techniques such as pattern manipulation, repositioning darts and working with an overlock machine.

You make garments such as a skirt with inseam pockets and a fitted blouse, learning to work with sleeves, closures and professional finishes.

After this phase you can independently make garments from pattern to finished product.

OWN DESIGN & REALISATION

In phase 3 you work towards designing and realising your own garment. You start by developing a concept, including a mood board and design, and translate this step by step into a technically executable plan.

You then work on pattern adjustments, make a toile and optimise the fit. You then realise your design in fabric, with full attention to construction, finishing and detail.

You complete the course with a professional final product and a presentation of your work.
